Get Plugged In #10

chuffed [chuhft]

–adjective British Informal.
delighted; pleased; satisfied.

"Chuffed?" That I am, but you'll have to get to the bottom of this post to see why.

Today? I have more plugs than The Hair Club For Men, and not only am I the President of Cormac Brown's Plugs For Writers, but I'm also a member!

Aldo Calcagno has scored a major coup for Darkest Before The Dawn, with the first three chapters of Hilary Davidson's new novel "The Damage Done!"

Richard Godwin has interviewed Pamila Payne and in it, she gives us some wonderful insights into the supernatural and goings on of The Bella Vista. Richard also can type out a mean tale, and "Nowhere Man" at A Twist of Noir, is no exception. He lights a fuse under some dynamite prose and I guarantee that after you read it, you won't look at the outside world the same way.

At Thrillers, Killers 'n' Chillers, Sandra Seamans can make a bright sunny day turn dark in ways that most of us can't imagine.

Nigel P Bird has taken all the spotlights out of Hollywood, and shifted them to the crime writing community, with his "Dancing With Myself" interviews.

He has noir great Kelli Stanley!

My fellow AAM alum, Chris Dabnor.

Paulie Decibels, who I will touch upon later on in this post.

The King of Crime Poetry, Gerald So.

The legendary Eric Beetner (where's JB?).

My crime writing Dad, Christopher Grant.

The Godmother of noir, Patti Abbott.

And with Steve Weddle, who was nice enough to plug me twice. Say even one semi-cross thing about the man and I won't eat your children, but I will make your ears look like some kind of odd hybrid between Evander Holyfield's and Vincent Van Gough's.

So what am I so proud of? Well, it's whom. A one Mister Paul D. Brazill has made it into the Premier League, with a story in The Mammoth Book of Best British Crime. It even made his hometown newspaper, The Hartlepool Mail.

The apple doesn't fall far from the tree and goodbye Thug Lit

On the brightside, the son of author Pamila Payne, Sigmund Werndorf has made it into Thug Lit with "Prisoner's Dilemma." Click it and you will find that he possess the same amazing gift for storytelling as his mother.

Also in this issue is Mike Wilkerson's finest effort to date, "Five Kilos." It's a gritty and raw tale. You know, the kind that your mom used to make...if your mom is James Cain or Gil Brewer.

On the darker side, Thug Lit is in limbo and seems as if it will be gone for good.

R.I.P. Thug Lit, one of the best crime magazines ever and the one that certainly featured the greatest writers of our time.

Get Plugged In #1

Walter Conley put together a beautiful online magazine called "Disenthralled," and it also happens to feature a story from my favorite unpublished author Quin Browne.

Pamila Payne brings nuance to crime writing, that's right, nuance. I'm not saying that other crime writers tell a story without it (big glass house, right here), I'm just saying she understands it perfectly...right before she hits you with the denouement.

Speaking of hitting you,Paulie Decibels sucks you in and then hits you with a sucker punch.

Keith Rawson finishes things up with whipped cream and a cherry, via an interview with Reed Farrel Coleman and Ken Bruen.

Six Things Meme

Like a Berlin Wall made of cork, the details have really been escaping me this past week. Freida Bee tagged me and I thought the meme was going to be half-pictorial, like hers was, but it turns out that was just a clever introduction to it. I lined up goofy pictures and had half of a storyline written this morning, then I found out this was not to be the case.

Crud.

At any rate, that doesn't mean we can't have a little fun, right? This is how it goes-

The Rules:

A) Link to the sexy manshrew who tagged you.

Actually, it wasn't a "manshrew," but Freida, Queen of The Bees. I'd make a semi-innocuous comment about "honey," but I don't know her all that well and her husband would probably make the trip from Texas to kick my ass.

B) Post the regulations on your blog.

No rules except, keep it semi-civil.

C) Write six random things about yourself:

Okay? So...

1) I am extremely susceptible to music and that's not just with songs I love, but also the songs I like, and even the ones I hate. Every time the Apple iPod ad with "Around The Bend" by The Asteroids Galaxy comes on, it takes me a good twenty minutes to get it out of my head.

2) I am King of The Run-on Sentences, view the first sentence in number one.

3) I've never met a non-filled pasta that I haven't liked.

4) I can't say the same about people, there are too many people who are hollow inside.

5) I've been flaking lately, sorry. So since my hair is turning gray, does that make me a Sugar-frosted Flake?

6) I couldn't care less what most people think about me, but memes strike a chord with my compulsions. So while on some days I don't want to do them, I'm afraid I won't be ever tagged again and I relent. That's right, I'm a Meme Masochist.

So who am I tagging?

Aldo. I know he's busy, but he said he would post more this year and he hasn't ; )
The always entertaining Paulie Decibels.
Pamila Payne, whom you don't know yet, but you will.
