It's rare when Quin Browne has time to write anymore.


So on the rare occasion when she does post her writing, she always hits it out of the park (is there such a thing as "writing steroids?").

So here it is, the day that it all comes fruition. Here is a new venue for dark fiction, a new publication that will change the way that you read magazines.

Agatha-nominated Elizabeth Zelvin kicks things off with "The Silkie." Chad Rohrbacher brings us into a robotic near future with "Furious." Sandra Seamans offers up a surreal piece of noir with "What Doesn't Kill You" and it is accompanied by an equally amazing illustration by Jane Burson.

Paul D. Brazill turns horror on its ear and gives it a Michael Madsen, with "Drunk On The Moon." "Automancer" is a tale that gives a new twist to magic, by my friend author and editor, Katherine Tomlinson. I have a story in there called "His Hands, which is a tribute to the writing style of my friend Quin Browne. I chronicle a doomed relationship that takes unforeseen tragic conclusion.

The aforementioned isn't even half of the stories that are in this issue, and the art work is truly a feast for the eyes. There is horror, fantasy, noir, science fiction and all the dark things that are under the sun...and in the shadows.

First, Peggy MacFarland has won Chad Rohrbacher's "Victor Gischler Giveaway."

This is just one of the many reasons, that she is my favorite non-published author.

Last, but not least is Skyler Hobbs. The creation of Evan Lewis has made both Ellery Queen Mystery Magazine and he got a little review in Mystery Scene Magazine.

Get Plugged In #6

Oh, I have links, but first comes a lecture. You see, you kids have so easy today. You have A Twist of Noir, Beat To A Pulp, Crime Factory, Pulp Metal, Thrillers Killers 'n' Chillers, Yellow Mama, (hopefully still) Astonishing Adventures, and many more places to submit your work to. In this sense, we are now living a golden age of crime fiction, where there are several venues for you to perfect your art and for you to have an audience.

Go all the way back to January 2007 and most of the magazines and sites mentioned above didn't exist. And the ones that did exist were expired, or on the verge of expiring. In stepped a man with a vision, Aldo Calcagno. He started Powder Burn Flash and the rest is history. So many of the writers in my links section and the aforementioned zines, have Aldo to thank for where we all are today.

Paul D. Brazil interviewed Aldo, and you really should read it. Not just because I say so, but also becuase it is an insight into the ever-changing world of crime fiction, and its existence on the Internet.

Katherine Tomlinson has updated her links and all of her works that can be accessed through the Internet, are at the top right of her page.

Last but certainly not least, while on holiday in Britain, Quin has met up with my favorite fiction couple, Margaret and Neville. Their latest tale has started off with a cliffhanger, and the next two weeks should get real interesting.

Walter Conley put together a beautiful online magazine called "Disenthralled," and it also happens to feature a story from my favorite unpublished author Quin Browne.

Pamila Payne brings nuance to crime writing, that's right, nuance. I'm not saying that other crime writers tell a story without it (big glass house, right here), I'm just saying she understands it perfectly...right before she hits you with the denouement.

Blogpourri: Part III

Ah yes, "Blogpourri: Part III." And just like Al Pacino and Silvio from "The Sopranos," just when you thought you were out...I'll pull you back in. Of course, unlike "The Godfather: Part III," it won't take up over two hours of your time and there will be no critics savaging Sofia Coppola here.

Since I opened this posting with a crime reference, let's kick this off with the most relentless crime fighter this side of Batman and the most tenacious detective this side of Inspector Jalvert, Bubs. Bubs has hit the big time with Arresting Tales! We're talking about a blogger being sponsored by the Chicago Tribune's Media Company and Joe Bubs shows you what life is like from his side of the badge. Believe you me, it's not all about taking your sunglasses off and making inane quips, à la David Caruso.

Next, I give you Quin, and I give you Veronica. Two writers that in the original vernacular, "school me on a regular basis." Unlike most of us who put pen to paper or fingers to keyboard, their writing evolves and improves with every piece.

First, just as this blog was originally designed to be, Quin has all of her published online work one one blog. It's all Quin, all the time, with better quality overall than Video On Demand, and unlike the cable companies, she won't put a dent in your wallet.

Next, after a two week-hiatus, Veronica is back. Two weeks is too long, but hey, I won't complain if she follows it up with a post every two days (please?).

I'm sorry that I've been away from your blog and this blog, but lately it's all about playing an online RPG and writing for a future issue of Astonishing Adventures Magazine. Here I am, waiting for character points to regenerate, so I now is the best time to take care of a meem. What Browne Can Do For You

No, not UPS, Quin Browne.

She and Thom Gabrukiewicz have changed the world of Six Sentences, putting the 6 S readers on their ears. They fired off sentences without knowing the plot in advance and the result is "Internal Combustion."

I have to recuse myself somewhat, because I believe that Miss Browne is one of the few authors that are not named Hammett or Chandler, that can do no absolutely wrong on paper.

Who Is A Kick Ass Blogger?

Look at that, ain't that pretty? It's a Kick Ass Blogger and guess who got one? That's right, Dale! Wha? No, what do you mean Dale? Yes, Dale got one too, but I'm talking about me! You go talk about Dale on his blog! What do you mean, you want to talk about Dale?

At any rate, I got a Kick Ass Blogger Award from Katie Schwartz, because she says that I'm "special." No, not like that! No, I don't want to talk about Dale! Look, so she gave me this award because I kick ass...no "kick...no, it's spelled "k-i-s-s," I said, "kick!" She also said-

So who do I chose? Good gravy, where do I start? I'd like to give one back to Katie, but she would say "don't be a putz."

Quin Browne is still the writer I aspire to be. She does things so effortlessly, with such patience and poise that I wonder if she is actually a bank of IBM Super Computers.

Becky, because let's face it, without her and Talk Soup, I'd have absolutely no idea what the hell was going on the pop culture world. Becky has steeled herself with her Pop Eye, so that she can watch the TV shows that would turn the rest of us to salt. She has been known to rock the Photoshop too.

Some Guys' Blog. Chris is the master of random thought and he somehow fits those random thoughts on to a blog. It takes an architect for that sometimes.

Princess Ladybug is a refreshing breath of fresh air in the cynical blog world and her happiness is contagious.

Speaking of refreshing, Neutron changes it up every day and he turns me on to new blogs as well.

Last but not least is the Baroness Von Bloggenschtern. For her Thoughtful Tuesdays, for her humor and because like Princess Ladybug, she is blogging royalty.
